THE RED ROSE—In my mind this gorgeous red rose is a perfect expression of beautiful simplicity. I am captivated by its color; by its uniquely regal fragrance; by the delicate softness and shape of the petals. Every time I see a rose, especially a red one, I want to turn aside and breathe in the lovely scent. When I do, and touch its soft petals, I always get a sense of peace. Perhaps it is the reason this particular variety is called a peace rose.
WHY THE THORNS?
Have you ever wondered as I have, why there are thorns? They’re so long and hard and sharp! Why would such a beautiful flower need such formidable weapons? Recently, I believe God showed me the reason. The more I thought about it the more I understood the beauty of His wisdom. He gently reminded me that in this fallen world, thorns are necessary. They are like God’s warning signal to any who would dare crush its beauty and ruin the purpose for which He created it.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ROSE
And what is its purpose? Most people recognize it as a token of affection, love, and romance. For me, it’s even more significant. I recognize it as symbolizing the very essence of gentleness, honor, and strength we experience when we find
true love. Yes, between a man and a woman most definitely. Yet even more profoundly, between Jesus Christ and His beloved Bride, the Body of Christ. For these reasons I’ve chosen the red rose as my singular trademark for Beautifully Simple Publishing. It signifies truth, simple beauty, and irrepressible joy expressed in my love relationship with Christ, working through all I write!
